Taiwan had experienced the colonial rule of different countries, so there are lots of legends and stories from different periods have gone viral in the society , and also a variety of folk believes , customs , taboos and other strange things of Taiwanese people are derivated from this. However when it comes to monsters, most people only think of the stories from China or Japan, The indigenous monster culture in Taiwan is obviously not as prevalent as China and Japan. It’s a pity that the mysterious monsters cannot "survive" smoothly in Taiwan society. Since ancient times, humans and animals are closely related. The biggest difference between human beings and animals is that people have ideas and consciousness, and animals are act by instinct. So that people give animals different images according to their behavior. The animal theme are also common in literary works , and monsterwriting are naturally cannot dispense about it. This paper takes the story of animal monsters in Taiwan during the Japanese period. Compares with the animal monster writings of China and Japan, explore the similarities and differences between Taiwan , China and Japan in the writing of animal monsters and the reasons why the monster culture in Taiwan isn’t flourishing.
