Summary: | 碩士 === 國立雲林科技大學 === 環境與安全衛生工程系 === 107 === Fossil fuels are non-renewable resource of energy and will be exhausted in the near future. Hence, the search for an alternative energy sources, including solar energy, hydroelectric power, geothermal energy, marine energy, and biomass energy has captivated a greater attention.
Biomass energy is commonly found in the biodegradable waste that could be transferred to bio-ethanol by pyrolysis, hydrogenation, distillation, and hydrolysis. There are numerous problems in the production process of bio-ethanol. Acid is used in the pretreatment and the conversion to bio-ethanol is expensive. Although the conversion methods from algae biomass to alcohol was developed, still the disposal of solid waste is a major problem. It is a vital problem as to how to deal with the agricultural waste.
According to the research, 72% of agricultural waste can be recycled or reused in Taiwan, and can be used as a resource of cellulose. Glucose can be produced by the hydrolysis the cellulose, and converted to bio-ethanol. Ionic liquids have been used as a catalysis in the process of hydrolysis. However, the recycling of these ionic liquid is challenging and methods to improve the recycling efficiency has to be investigated.
