Summary: | 碩士 === 國立雲林科技大學 === 應用外語系 === 107 === Gender equality education has attracted Taiwanese people’s attention in recent years. However, the teaching materials seem to be limited to textbooks. The purpose of this research is to provide another self-written reading material, a picture book story, for children to understand the world of LGBT. In order to write a story, I took the results analyzed from eight available LGBT picture books as references. Then, 30 LGBT participants were inquired through a questionnaire and interviews for the inspiration of my story writing. After the story was finished, there was another questionnaire for the same group of participants to gain their feedback about the story and whether the story written in this research met their expectations.
The findings revealed that, in LGBT participants’ minds, the concept of respect and the difficulties of obtaining recognition in their life were the elements and aspects they wanted to deliver to children through picture books. As a result, I made “difficulty to obtain recognition” as the theme and the “concept of respect” as a morale in the story. The picture book written in this research, based on the results of participants’ reviews, met their expectations.
