Different interfaces were then design, and experimentally verified. Since Amazon.com released the first generation Kindle e-reader in November 2007, the sales volume of e-book has been growing rapidly. After 11 years, e-book has changed from the size of a fax machine to a thin tablet. The matured technology of integrating hardware with software has made e-book highly acceptable by users. This study used the sixth-generation iPad produced in 2018 as the object of experiment. The pilot experiment is 3 (three e-book platform App reading modes) × 2 (men and women) two-way ANOVA. There were 30 subjects. The within subjects design used task analysis with observation method to record the time performance of the three Apps operated by the subjects. This study compared the users’ reading mode functions, as affected by three Apps and gender. The confirmatory experiment is 2 (text in horizontal and vertical direction) ×2 (function in vertical and horizontal direction) ×2 (finger touch, stylus touch) three-way ANOVA. According to the results of the pilot experiment, the interface mode construction and the design of interface and interaction were performed. Eight experimental samples were designed, and 120 subjects participated in the confirmatory experiment, where task analysis combined with observation method was used to record the use and fluency of the test sample operated by the subjects. The time performance and clicks of the subjects’ operation in the background of the program were recorded. The difference between the time performance and the number of clicks was discussed. The findings can provide the designer with design suggestions on the e-book platform reading mode, thus making users have a better reading experience. Based on the results of the experimental verification, the following four design criteria are proposed: (1) as for the e-book function catalogue, whether it is horizontal text or vertical text, horizontal catalogue is more suitable. (2) As for e-book note library, whether it is horizontal text or vertical text, note library of horizontal text is more suitable. (3) As for note input interface, whether it is horizontal text or vertical text, it is suitable to apply horizontal annotation input interface in comment paragraphs and input text square. (4) It is suggested that functions such as fluorescent pen, annotation, sharing and deletion should be adjusted synchronously in the text and note library.
