Sedentary behavior is any sitting activities with the energy expenditure less than 1.5 Metabolic Equivalent of Task (MET) during waking time. According to World Health Organization (WHO), there are 60% to 85% of people in the world live in sedentary lifestyles. In Taiwan, the average daily sedentary time of adults is about 7 hours. The prolonged sedentary behavior is associated with health risk of cardiovascular disease, type II diabetes, obesity, cancer and poor sleep. Monitoring sedentary behavior can provide sedentary information for people to understand their daily behavior, adjust the sedentary behavior and reduce sedentary time subsequently. This study aims to develop a sedentary behavior monitoring system using accelerometers of smartphone and smartwatch. The sedentary behavior monitoring system utilizes smartphone to detect the posture transition and smartwatch to identify the sedentary behavior. The identified sedentary information from monitoring system can be visualized on the smartphone for people to observe their daily behavior and adjust sedentary behavior. From the experiments of posture transition detection and sedentary behavior identification, appropriate thresholds are determined to detect posture state and distinguish sedentary and non-sedentary behavior. In addition, the results of system testing experiments demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed system to monitor the sedentary behavior in daily living. The visualized sedentary information on smartphone can assist people to realize and adjust their daily behavior for reducing sedentary time. Chia-Tai Chan 詹家泰 2019 學位論文 ; thesis 51 zh-TW |
