Owing to the naturally sole replacement for the lifetime, the health of the teeth is so critical challenge to us all. To your knowledge, the teeth will form the plaque soon after dining and digesting some food which create a suitable environment for the bacteria. Dentists are used to advise us to clean up the teeth after meals for the reason, even though a little amount of acids can actually damage our teeth surface. The study will illustrate the ways to check the real condition of teeth which may get affected by plaque with affordable medical devices.
With the characteristics, the 405 nm wavelength of light to match the strongest peak of absorption spectrum of the plaque, and the RGB laser are used as illumination source. We captured the grayscale images of pigs’ teeth with four wavelengths (405, 445, 505 and 638 nm) by CMOS cameras. Finally, we performed image processing using two methods: “Difference Image”, for the calculation of single-layer grayscale images with colorbar, “Pseudo Color”, insert images to RGB layer with different assembles.
The information of plaque can be obtained either by. And the Difference Image offers better contrast result than Pseudo Color in according with the experiments. However, these two methods cannot show the difference between plaque and exposed dentin accurately. With prospective in the coming future, the stated methods still can be optimized to display the plaque distribution for medical applications and make further contributions for humans.
