The numerical procedure used in this study is the method of characteristics (MOC) which solves the time-domain Maxwell equations for the scattering problems in the pre-built numerical model. There are two types of dielectric slabs, namely uniform dielectric constant (εr = 4) and non-uniform dielectric constant distributions (3 ≤ εr ≤ 5) having average of 4 where the uniform one is the control group. Demonstrations of the numerical results are of two types: time domain and frequency domain. Time dependent plots include snapshots of electric field strengths over the whole numerical domain at several time instances, the reflected and transmitted electric field strengths, and both electric and magnetic field strengths recorded at the center of dielectric slabs. Frequency domain plots comprise the corresponding spectrum and phase graphs of the temporal counterparts. As well as given are some of the differences among the field strengths, spectra, and phases. The numerical results suggest that the dielectric slabs with monotonic linearly increasing / decreasing distributions have the least significant influence of all on the reflection and transmission of the EM fields, but the most at the center of slabs.
