The Relationship between Multidimensional Self-esteem, Rejection Sensitivity, and Love Relationship Adjustment in College Students

碩士 === 臺北市立大學 === 心理與諮商學系 === 107 === The purposes of this study were: (1) to investigate the relationships among Chinese multidimensional self-esteem, rejection sensitivity and love relationship adjustment; (2) to explore the mediating effects of rejection sensitivity on Chinese multidimensional self-esteem and love relationship adjustment. Convenience sampling survey method and questionnaire were applied to collect data. 423 college students who were in the romantic relationship during the research time responded to the following questionnaires: “Chinese Multidimensional Self-esteem Scale”, “Rejection Sensitivity Questionnaire” and “Relationship Adjustment Scale”. Data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation analysis and hierarchical regression. Main findings of this research were as follows: (1) There were significant differences on rejection sensitivity and Chinese multidimensional self-esteem by gender and duration of relationship; (2) Chinese multidimensional self-esteem and love relationship adjustment were positively correlated, but negatively correlated with rejection sensitivity; (3) rejection sensitivity and love relationship adjustment were negatively correlated; (4) Chinese multidimensional self-esteem and rejection sensitivity could significantly predict love relationship adjustment; (5) Chinese multidimensional self-esteem, social oriented self-esteem and “autonomous/symbiosis” of love relationship adjustment, were partially mediated by rejection sensitivity. Individual oriented self-esteem and love relationship adjustment, “autonomous/symbiosis”, were partially mediated by rejection sensitivity. Based on the results, implication of the study for counseling were proposed and guidance and suggestions for the future research were discussed as well.
