Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺北藝術大學 === 博物館研究所 === 107 === Beyond a geographical concept, Asia is considered as multiple meanings; Asia cultural studies deal with various topics over Asia. Meanwhile, many museums also focus on Asian themes, presenting self-identity and multiple issues. This research explores how the Library Park in Asia Culture Center represents Asia cultural studies as a case study, where is a new type of space called ‘Larchiveum’.
The literature review shows that the term Larchiveum is proposed to transcend the boundaries of libraries, archives, and museums, integrate their functions and features and create maximum value. Through reviewing the literature related to museums and Asia cultural studies, this research also proposes three points that Library Park, as Larchiveum type, is conducive to dealing with Asian issues: Using Library Park’s network environment can promote the more effective and extensive exchange of knowledge and resources about Asia; Through the juxtaposition of objects, books, and archives, Library Park can contain more diverse perspectives; Library Park exhibits 13 special themes, which allows us to explore various aspects of Asia.
This research adopts the methods of exhibition analysis, literature analysis, and interviews to reflect on Library Park’s strategy, Asia constructed in Library Park, and its relevance to Asia cultural studies. Four major findings in the research indicate that, first, the reason why Library Park took Larchiveum type is related to the vision of their authorities and its mission. Second, the exhibition space is classified according to the theme, and provides services such as reading, listening, watch, search, and self-study. In the Library Park like a park, visitors can experience Asian culture. Library Park displays the artist’s works (such as performance art, experimental films, etc.), art as a tool for capturing society (such as picture, sound) and a part of the social structure (such as architecture, electronic arcade, etc.). Thus, it indicates historical experiences, social aspects, and cultural characteristics of Asia. Third, the Asian cultures represented in Library Park transcend the geographical boundaries of the Asian continent; however, the contents of the exhibition are still focused on East Asia. Finally, in order to increase and spread the plural value of Asian culture, and achieve diversified Asia cultural studies, Library Park plays the role of supporting Asian cultural studies; with massive archives, it also serves as a text for Asia cultural studies, providing people with an opportunity to interpret Asian culture from different angles.
