He inherits the classical spirit of Italy since the Renaissance, and uses Greek and Roman sculptures as a model. By incorporating the spirit of the times and the innovation of engraving techniques, Canova's sculptures have both classical and innovative qualities. The carving style of Canova belonged to the late Baroque style at the beginning, and the journey to Rome in 1779 was the start of style changes. Canova sculptures, integration of classical essence and new ideas and techniques are the originality that generally lack in the wave of replicating archaeological art. Canova is ingenious in the triangle composition and fits into the inner meaning. With exquisite carving skills and the unique interpretation of the heroes is the characteristic of Canova carvings, also the main reason why sculptures are unique.
