Summary:碩士 === 淡江大學 === 課程與教學研究所碩士班 === 107 === This study aims to examine firstly the theories of Teaching Mandarin Chinese as a second language in junior high schools in Vietnam. Secondly, the author analyzed the three most popular characters: entertainment, practicability and focalization of Chinese teaching materials for junior high schools in Vietnam. Thirdly, the author also examined the YCT and TOCFL standards for Chinese teaching materials in Vietnam. Finally, the author investigated the topics of intermediate-and-advanced-level Chinese Language Textbooks and the teachers who are engaging in Chinese teaching. The final goal is to know how to design Chinese textbooks for learners in Vietnamese context to make them love more studying Chinese language and to use Chinese in their daily life. The study discovered that the composition of an ideal beginner-level material requires the topics of real-life communications in order to achieve the goals of interpersonal communications. The Chinese teaching materials in Vietnam should be interesting, practical with the systematic grammars and patterns, and combined with the characteristics of Chinese culture background, so that the learners can understand Chinese culture and history.
