Obviously, air-conditioning energy-saving technologies are critical for energy conservation and carbon reduction. Controlling the physical environment of the data center helps to reduce the generation of hotspots and limit the mixing of hot and cold air in the data center, thus effectively improving energy efficiency. The simulated physical geometry model is built by adopting the Computational Fluid Dynamic(CFD)simulation technology, which is widely used in thermal environment analysis. The simulation parameters, including physical space measurement, air conditioning configuration, IT facility layout and measurement of heat generation by server equipment, are acquired from a financial institution’s data center located in the north of Taiwan. The purpose of this study is to analyze airflow and thermal distribution between four different cases of airflow channel configuration models under the same boundary conditions. The model is further verified with grid independence test to provide more confidence in the model. The results revealed that the layout with the closed heat channel design and without the side panel between cabinets provide the optimal airflow thermal performance.
