碩士 === 慈濟大學 === 教育研究所 === 107 === The main purpose of the study was to explore the differences and relations between Future Imagination Disposition and Career barriers of college students in terms of their different backgrounds. The purpose of this study were: (a) to explore the current situation of Future Imagination Disposition and Career barriers of college students in Taiwan; (b) to analyze the differences between Future Imagination Disposition and Career barriers of college students in terms of their different backgrounds (school type, gender, department, grade); (c) to investigate the relationship between Future Imagination Disposition and Career barriers of college students; (d) to understand the predictions of backgrounds and Future Imagination Disposition on Career barriers among college students; (e) to provide some suggestions according to the outcome for College career counseling.
The sample consisted of 595 first year to fourth year students from three Public and Private universities with convenience sampling. The study gathered information through questionnaire surveys. The instruments applied were Future Imagination Disposition Scale and Career Barrier Scale. The obtained data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, independent samples t test, one way ANOVA, Pearson correlation analysis, canonical correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis. The main results were as follows:
1. About overall performance of future imagination disposition and career barriers, university students' future imagination disposition of “grasp opportunity” tended to be the strongest, and their future imagination disposition of “plot construction” tended to be the weakest. For university students, their feeling of “the weak willed barriers” in career barriers was the strongest, and “gender barriers” was the weakest.
2. The difference of college students with different background variables was that national university students’ future imagination disposition were significantly higher than private university students in terms of “grasp opportunity”; moreover, humanities and social sciences college students’ future imagination disposition were significantly higher than science and engineering students in terms of “emotion and value”.
3. The difference of university students with different background variables was that national university students’ career barriers were significantly higher than private university students in terms of “the weak willed barriers”, “hesitant and information exploration barriers” and “family barriers”. Male university students’ career barriers were significantly higher than female university students in terms of “department selection and learning situation barriers”. Science and engineering college students’ career barriers were significantly higher than humanities and social sciences college students in terms of “overall career barriers”, “department selection and learning situation barriers” and “future choice barriers”. University students of different grades have differences in “overall career barriers”, and the third year university students’ department selection and learning situation barriers were significantly higher than freshmen, sophomores and seniors. The third year university students’ weak willed barriers were significantly higher than freshmen.
4. There were two significant canonical correlations between university students’ future imagination disposition and career barriers. The first canonical correlation was that when university students’ future imagination disposition tend to stronger in terms of “past review and future prediction”, “emotion and value” and “grasp opportunity”, their career barriers tend to be weaker in terms of “hesitant and information exploration barriers” and “characteristics expression barriers”. The second canonical correlation was that when university students’ future imagination disposition tend to weaker in terms of “plot construction”, their career barriers tend to be weaker in terms of “department selection and learning situation barriers” and “gender barriers”.
5. The predictabilities of university students’ backgrounds and future imagination disposition on career barriers were significant. Among which the grasp opportunity was the most predictable.
Based on results, suggestions for College career counseling and future researches were discussed and proposed.
