碩士 === 大仁科技大學 === 文化創意產業研究所 === 107 === This study is concerned primarily with space revitalization and local identity - take the Qiaozitou Sugar Factory in Kaohsiung City as an example. Employing a qualitative research method, coupled with literature discussions, the study aims to gain a deeper insight into the history of the Qiaozitou Sugar factory, and to establish fundamental information concerning spatial activation as well as a sense of locality. Then, using the method of in-depth interviews, I seek to acquire first-hand information from former teachers of the Cultural and Art History Association, the head of the Sugar Industry Museum, the merchants and the warden of the neighborhood. Research shows that the Qiaozitou Sugar Factory has a key advantage in terms of geographical location. Although it is in close proximity to the MRT, the number of tourists increases significantly only on weekends or major festivals. On weekdays, visitors use the factory mainly as a park for exercise without making purchases. How to stabilize customer base and boost their willingness to spend remains a key challenge for the sugar factory and surrounding merchants. Based on opinions from the interviewees, improvements are needed for several aspects of the commercial environments in which the Qiaozitou Sugar Factory operates. We hope that the Taiwan Sugar Corporation will collaborate with the residents and local shops to hold more social events, with a view to attracting more customers and stimulating local economic development. Furthermore, it is hoped that prosperity will not come at the expense of demolishing or reconstructing the factory. Instead, it should undergo minimal renovation so that the heritage can be well-preserved. This will become an invaluable resource for developing the concept of local knowledge.
