Description
Summary:碩士 === 大仁科技大學 === 藥學系碩士班 === 107 === Plectranthus amboinicus cv. Variegatus is a perennial herb belonging to the family Lamiaceae which has been widely distributed in Taiwan. The present study investigates the effect of P. amboinicus 'Variegata' on skin-aging related enzyme activity and skin cell migration ability. P. amboinicus 'Variegata' leaf (PAVL) extracted by three different solvents as distilled water, 50% ethanol and 95% ethanol. The extracts were then subjected to analyses including total polyphenol content, 1,1-diphenyl-2-pycrylhydrazyl (DPPH) scavenging activity, tyrosinase and elases inhibition activities, carvacrol and thymol contents. In addition, skin cell migration ability plays important role on wound healing. the migration ability on HaCaT skin cell for PAVL extracts were also carried out. The results revealed that the polyphenolic content in 95% ethanol extract was higher than that in aqueous extract and 50% ethanol extract (p<0.05). Similar results were also found in DPPH scavenging activity, tyrosinase and elastase inhibitory activities, and carvacrol content. Thymol content in all extracts was lower than 0.05 ppm. Carvacrol was thus the major indicator component in P. amboinicus 'Variegata'. In case of HaCaT keratinocytes migration test, 95% ethanol extract revealed significant wound healing ability in a dose-dependent manner. The results provide beneficial information on developing cosmetic and skin care products in the future.
