Hyptis brevipes Poit. is a family of Lamiaceae. It is commonly used in traditional medicine to eliminate swelling and activate collateral. However, the scientific literature on it is scarce. Most of the relevant literature is reported as Sambucus formosana Nakai. Therefore, research was further carried out on H. brevipes. In this experiment, dried stems and leaves of H. brevipes were used to cook rice wine and vinegar to steam for one day and then extracted with deionized water and 95% ethanol. This study was also to investigate the effect of H. brevipes on the growth of cancer cells and the biological activity before and after processing. Cell culture experiments were carried out using human hepatoma cells (Hep G2 Cells), human lung cancer cells (A549 Cells), human colon cancer cells (HCT-116 Cells), and human breast cancer cells (MBA-MB-231 Cells). From the results of the 3-(4,5-Dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-Diphenyltetrazolium Bromide (MTT) assay, it was found that compared with the unprocessing H.brevipes , the ethanol extracts after vinegar steaming have significant activity for inhibiting the growth of human breast cancer cells. The half maximal inhibitory concentration of the growth of human breast cancer cells on the unprocessing wine extract, the wine extract after the wine steaming and the vinegar steaming wine extract was 173.2, 245 and 125 μg/ml, respectively. There was no difference in the inhibition of growth of other cancer cell lines before and after processing. The results will help to develop a reference for the treatment of cancer in the future.
