Summary: | 碩士 === 樹德科技大學 === 人類性學研究所 === 107 === Previous research has revealed many variables which can affect sexual satisfaction but their relative importance was hardly discussed. The present meta-analysis aimed to analyse and compare correlating factors of sexual satisfaction from the perspective of ecological theory. Relevant journal articles published between 1993 and 2012 were extensively searched using the citation index Web of Science. Based on the integration of correlation effect sizes from 40 independent samples, depression, sexual attitude, relationship satisfaction, sexual function and sexual assertiveness were found to significantly and directly associate with sexual satisfaction. Population sampled and sample size were identified as sufficient moderators for some of these significant correlations. Samples using university and college students and of smaller sizes often reported greater effect sizes. A correlation matrix of microsystem and mesosystem variables was derived from meta-analytic data in order generate data to validate the proposed ecological model of sexual satisfaction. The revised model demonstrated a very good model fit to the integrated correlation effect sizes. The overall variance in sexual satisfaction explained by the model was 43.9%. Total effects of the five correlating factors on sexual satisfaction showed a pattern similar to the corresponding magnitude of weighted mean average effect sizes. In terms of relative importance, mesosystem variables, especially relationship satisfaction, were discovered to be the most important sub-system in explaining variances in sexual satisfaction. In short, the interconnections among correlating factors of sexual satisfaction were substantial in understanding sexual satisfaction. Individuals are recommended to improve the communication aspect of their romantic and/or sexual relationships in order to raise sexual satisfaction while sexuality counsellors should offer more comprehensive strategies by considering different facets of sexual satisfaction.
