碩士 === 世新大學 === 觀光學研究所(含碩專班) === 107 === Hakka is a distinctive group within the Chinese ethnicity due to its long endured hardship and evolving migration for thousands of years. With the change of times, a part of the Hakka group has established a place of their own, status-wise, in Taiwan after migrating from China. Differ from robots, humans need to take time off from work for leisure to gain physical and psychological benefits. From the time of Taiwan repossession (from Japan post World War II) as the early period, a comparative study is performed on farm leisure activities by the Hakka between the early and modern periods.The study defines the role that leisure activities played on Hakka farm-living through site survey, in-depth interview, and literary analysis. The study found that people lacked general knowledge of leisure after the war due to political instability, depressed farm society, and low income by the population that people rather looked for feeding themselves. With increased export of products and improved economy, people mostly participated leisure activities through festivals because their income levels were still not high. With more sufficient income in the modern period, coupled with more democracy politically and the implementation of two off-days per week, people gradually put more attention on leisure activities which ultimately influenced and changed how people within Hakka manors engaged leisure.
