碩士 === 東吳大學 === 中國文學系 === 107 === Dufu was honored as “Sage of Poetry” for his outspoken style of poetry that described the darkness of politics, abusing officials, suffering people, and the injustice phenomenon in the society. The “Current Issue Collection” of New Yue Fu poetry especially demonstrated Dufu’s worries of the nation and the people. He integrated current issues into poetry to present reality, to express his love and ideals for the society. Dr. Xu, Qingyun described Dufu in his “The Revelation after Reading Dufu’s Book” as “A scholar who was concerned about the nation and the people, who expressed the concerns with clear words in his poetry. Even the heartless world favored the Sage of Poetry, the poor in the troubled times should not be afraid”. Dufu was in the troubled times and lived in poverty throughout his life without access to “rendering meritorious services” and without time to “set his virtue”, as a result, he focused his mind on “expounding his ideas in writing”. He put what he saw and heard in his poetry that touched the readers thousands of generations to come and earned him the titles of “Sage of Poetry” and “History of Poetry”. “The poor in troubled times should not be afraid” was a pun that had a profound meaning, which not only praised Dufu, but also encouraged all the students and people. There are six chapters and two appendices in this article. The first chapter is introduction. The second chapter is about Dufu’s Life, the third chapter talks about the phases of Dufu’s poetry. The fourth and fifth chapters focus on the analysis of Dufu’s New Yue Fu Poetry, followed by the Conclusion of Chapter Six. Appendix I states the characteristics and the achievement of Dufu’s poetry, while Appendix II discusses the contribution and effects of Dufu’s poetry. The conclusion includes the following three key points: 1. New Yue Fu demonstrated the spirit of “History of Poetry”. 2. New Yue Fu utilized the essence of “current issues”. 3. New Yue Fu creation fulfilled the spirit of “documentary”. Poets after Dufu had admired his “Current Issue Collection” of “New Yue Fu” poetry for the past thousand years, using Dufu’s poems as references for their creation. Moreover, many scholars conducted researches on Dufu’s poetry and started the so- called “The Studies of Dufu’s Poetry”, honoring Dufu as “History of Poetry”, “Sage of Poetry”, and “Synthesizer”, which finally entitled Dufu, who roamed around throughout his life time, to the ultimate honor and respect of the scholars after him. Dufu had earned his laurel deservedly. The literary world and the academia had determined Dufu’s achievements. This article was written in hope of coming to fame along with the scholars before my time.
