Summary: | 碩士 === 中國文化大學 === 中國音樂學系 === 107 === This paper explores the use of jazz within contemporary zheng music, focusing on the analysis and interpretation of Fan Wei-Tsu`s two works, Savor, Reverie and Chaos and Star Dust. In recent years, the development of zheng music has become more globalized. Many composers have tried using various forms of world musical materials to write new and original zheng music, including the jazz. In recent decades, various jazz music events are quite prevalent in Taiwan, whether it’s the jazz music festival held by local governments or being in the restaurants at every street corners. Jazz music always creates a relaxing atmosphere for everyone to enjoy.
Jazz music is a musical style that has an abundant history. In order to better understand its essence and idiom, the writer first studies the history and various genres of jazz and then further explores its usage in Fan Wei-Tsu`s two works, Savor, Reverie, and Chaos and Star Dust as examples for research on performance practices. The employment of jazz music idioms in these two works is quite original which distinguishes them from most other contemporary music for zheng.
