To satisfy the demand of the building industry, lots of rebar with different length need to be cut in advance before delivery. An unsuitable combination of different length of rebar for cutting will leave some residual rebar. How to assemble different length of the rebar to reduce the waste of rebar is important. In this paper, the method of optimizing the length combination of steel for cutting is proposed. An approach of combination of different length specifications is used, the length of each specification can be multiplied by a coefficient to minimize the residual rebar. As the combination of various specifications and corresponding coefficients was determined, so that the length of each combination can be closest to the length of the rebar (raw material), and the optimal solution can be gotten.
