Summary: | 碩士 === 國立聯合大學 === 能源工程學系碩士班 === 107 === Zinc-air battery has been developed as primary, secondary, or flow batteries. Based on the battery anode material, it can be classified as flexible zinc sheet, zinc slurry, and zinc plate. In this study, different structure of single cell and oxygen reduction electrode (ORR) were fabricated and tested to improve the cell performance.
For a given single cell, carbon, gold foil, and titanium plate were used as current collector while 25BC was ORR electrode. The results shown that gold foil current collector has low power density due to corrosion on the porous gold foil. The performance of carbon and titanium current collector were similar. The maximum power density of 30.2 mW cm-2 was achieved. The gravimetric and volumetric energy density of titanium were 4.7 Wh kg-1 and 5.2 Wh L-1 respectively. These were better than carbon current collector (2.1 Wh kg-1 and 2.9 Wh L-1). This is due to thinner and lighter of titanium than carbon. The performance of 8-cell stack with titanium current collector, air blower, 10AA carbon paper as the air electrode was 9.8W.
For ORR modification, XC-72R carbon slurry was coated on 10AA and on 25BC with various carbon/dispersion ratio. The results shown that commercial 10AA carbon paper after hot pressing had the best performance than commercial 10AA carbon paper without any treatment and the other modified 10AA carbon paper. However, commercial 25BC carbon paper had the lowest performance. The performances were improved after coating of XC-72R carbon slurry. The best performance was 64.5 mW cm-2 at carbon/dispersion ratio of 0.5.
For modified ORR, various compression ratios of hot press ranging from 0.15 to 0.83 were also studied. The best compression ratio was between 0.5 ~ 0.7 and the best performance was 75.1 mW cm-2 @ 125 mA cm-2 with 0.6 compression ratio of 0.6.
