The introduction of BIM technology can improve the traditional design process, especially in digital regulation checking, whereby not only more and more research has investigated it, but also the government has been actively promoting it. However, here is still a lack of information integration for an in-depth development of technology and parametric regulation in the digital regulation checking project. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to: (1) formulate a parametric regulation, (2) build smart objects, by setting object parameter information so that the object can continue to be used as the design changes, and (3) develop an application programming interface (API) and using it to capture smart objects information, replace regulatory value settings, and apply regulatory regulations to the design process. Based on the above, this study proposed a set of smart object-based APIs [iStages], which, when combined with API and knowledge module ideas, translates regulatory information into fixed knowledge storage through the process of developing smart objects that can effectively shorten the time spent reviewing regulations in the design process to assist designers in using correct and compliant objects at design time. In order to verify that the regulations can translate parameter information into the objects, this study took the construction of stairs in the architectural design as an example, and matched it with the API application to assist the designer in the design decision and the calculation of the number of stairs, reduce the number of repeated regulation reviews, and provide the results of the corresponding regulatory provisions on the smart objects used, thus allowing designers to have more time to carry out design thinking and improve the quality of architectural design.
