Cancer is a leading cause of death in Taiwan. Many cancer-related NGOs in Taiwan has been trying to fulfill the unmet need from cancer families; however, most of them are located in the northern Taiwan and focus on common cancers. These lead to the uneven distribution of regional resources of cancer care and patients with special cancers are relatively hard to find supporting groups to join. Besides, cancer patients in Taiwan most of time still rely on keeping their medical records through booklets issued by hospitals or patient groups. It is hard for patients to visualize the progress of their illness in time, and due to the limitation of the space, the current booklets are not provided sufficient blanks for certain information like moods, pain, stress and fatigue. There is still some room for improvement when it comes to the tools for cancer patients to keep their medical data. With the purpose of meeting the unmet need of the cancer care system, our organization Meiman (美滿) will be a social enterprise aiming at providing cancer patients with an online personal health record and information sharing platform with patient network function. Patients can keep records of their health data to better manage their disease and they can choose to share their own health data and connect with other cancer patients through the platform without time and place limitations. Moreover, the patient-generated data on the platform can also be provided to further researches to improve patient care and health systems through addressing patient needs.
