The purpose of this study is to investigate the applications of using local featured elements in landscape that design by the author(Chen Chin-Jung). To discuss from the aspects of construction method, applicable scope, beautify effect, sustainable environment, four local elements have been chosen : 1. stone material from local fields, 2. driftwood, 3. idle heritage, 4. patterns connected to local culture.
Implementation research has been adopted in this study as a way of using qualitative research strategy. The reflection, study, discussion that were collected during the process of landscape creation using local elements were all recorded, verified, interpreted and analyzed in this study.
Three summaries were obtained from using these four Taitung local elements to create design works : 1. stones and driftwoods can be used broadly for leisure space, not only can reduce the waste but also suits the temperament of the local environment; when they were used in the creation of farmhouse, they compliance the requirement of “Agri-land for Agricultural Usage”. 2. The reborn and reuse of the old architecture also reduces waste and has become an aesthetic installation art work around by the nostalgic atmosphere of Taitung Sugar Factory. 3. Use local cultural patterns in train station decoration, which won the MOTC golden way awards, increase more local stylish in Taitung train station.
