Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺灣海洋大學 === 海洋生物研究所 === 107 === The family Palaemonidae has the highest diversity in caridean shrimps and with 150 genera and nearly 1000 species known to date. Include palaemonid shrimp and pontoniine shrimps. The former mainly distributed in freshwater and less often brackish water. The latter are widely distributed in coral reefs and in symbiosis with other invertebrates. Because of their small size and symbiotic life, some even live inside the hosts, marine palaemonid shrimps are generally not easy to discover even though they are actually quite common. Extensive scuba diving collecting in the coral reefs of Taiwan have been conducted to survey the marine Palaemonidae fauna there. This work collected 24 species in 18 genera, with 14 species of 11 genera being new Taiwan records, 6 species of 6 genera being formal reported for the first time. The biogeographical pattern of Palaemonidae shrimps differs from previously proposed biogeographical provinces for other marine animals with the Indo-West Pacific region subdivided into 11 zones: West Indian Ocean, Maldives, Indo- Pacific Central, East Asia, Mariana, New Caledonia, Marshall, Central Pacific, Hawaii, French Polynesia and Easter Is..
