It completed 280 roads, 6.72 million square meters, 420 kilometers, and reduce 44,000 man holes in 6 years. The completed distance of the road smooth project equals National Highway No. 3 from Keelung to Pingtung. This project reaches the major goal to maintain the beauty of the city. However, Taipei is a metropolis of Taiwan with large population and traffic flow. The poor pavement often caused the accidents and the state compensations. Moreover, the pavement after re-milling can’t find a place to dispose which also causes more loading of contractors. After the Road Smooth Project was completed, the entire life cycle of the road had entered the maintenance phase. Usually the road maintenance annual budget is fixed. As the area of road increased year by year, the funding is impossible to grow without limit in the future(In general, fixed budgeting is used). This article discusses the new maintenance method to keep the high-quality pavement and to avoid the roadway rehabilitation and destroying the road structure. In order to extend the service life of roads, we try to select the most economical maintenance method at the right time to restore the pavement performance. This research also analyses the cost effectiveness of the new maintenance method and materials which to deal with the cracks, the potholes, the elevation difference, and micro-damages on the roads and to decrease the using of the large equipment and long term road occupation.
