The soil of the world has been loosing its functions and disappearing, endanger-ing human's future and national security. However, courses and related teaching de-signs are insufficient, either in the formal or informal education in the elementary school level, in present as well as in past Taiwan. Above that, urbanization also con-tributes to the barrier between the schoolchilren and the knowledge and experiences to soil, biasing their future knowledge, values, and behaviors toward the soil. The results are fourfold: 1) Courses for soil education were divided into three stages, i.e., a lecture, a field trip, and an out-door experiencing stage. 2) The courses for soil education increased the knowledge of soil in schoolchildren and had a positive effect on their values toward soil. 3) Direct experiences to soil had significant influences on the knowledge of soil; there are no significant differences between genders. 4) Comparison of values toward soil between pre- and post-tests showed no significant influences of gender and grade. Based on the results, the suggestions for future research and course design are as follows: 1) An increase in the duration of the course and an improvement to the teaching materials are recommended. 2) In order to improve the reliability and validity of the questionnaire, a reivision in its contents and an increase in sample size are suggested. 3) The contents should be related to the surrounding environment of the participants or their daily-life issues regarding the soil. 4) Training of the fellow teachers and the organizers is also suggested. 5) Scientific methods should be applied to assess the topics in soil education that are suitable for elementary schoolchildren in Taiwan. And 6) the negative emotions toward soil in the schoolchildren should be studied and taken into consideration.
