Diabetes mellitus, a non-communicable disease, is one of the top ten causes of death globally, and the mortality rate from diabetes in Palau is 14%. This indicates that diabetes mellitus type 2 is a severe problem in Palau. Purpose: The purpose is to educate participants about diabetes mellitus type 2 through a smartphone application and compare the study participant’s knowledge about diabetes mellitus type 2 before and after using the smartphone application to assess its effect. Method: This study used a quasi-experimental longitudinal design with pre- and post-test. A total of 100 participants in the community of Palau participated in this study. A separate survey was done to measure the participant’s user satisfaction with the smartphone application. The data analysis was done using SPSS version 20. The pre and post-test were analyzed using the paired sample t-test. Pearson correlation was used to investigate the relationship between demographic variables and user satisfaction survey. Multiple linear regressions were used to identify which factors predict the knowledge of diabetes and user satisfaction of the application. Results: The mean age of the participants was 39.87 (SD±8.63). The majority of the respondents were female (66%). Results for the knowledge questionnaire showed pre-test score mean 79.80 (SD±12.31), and post-test score means 95.20 (SD±7.72). The user satisfaction survey total score means it is 38.27 (SD±2.93). Conclusion: The study has provided an insight into how smartphone application has helped increase the knowledge of the study participants in Palau. It also has shown the higher user satisfaction of the smartphone application among the people of Palau. LIAO, PEI-HUNG 廖珮宏 2019 學位論文 ; thesis 46 en_US
