Plastic products have become such a pervasive part of our everyday lives that the much of the population cannot comprehend life without plastics. Taiwanese advances in the field of modified resin formation technology could provide the bridge for a more comprehensive adaptation of bioplastics products. This research paper will explore the market feasibility of a modified polylactic acid resin products in the United States. This research dissertation sets the overview of the industry by highlighting the internationally-recognized definition of bioplastics and outlining the weaknesses. The five-forces analysis is utilized to provide an explanation regarding the various forces at play within the bioplastics industry. The PESTLE and market segmentation analyses consolidates the various incentive programs and target market segments within the United States. The coopetition strategy analysis explores the potential market value creation through interplay among the various players. This research dissertation concludes that the feasibility of a modified polylactic acid resin for the United States market is viable. The increasing attention on the industry, both public or private sectors, creates room for further value creation through the applications of modified resin forming technologies. The proposed coalition model, headed by a industry giant would only further facilitate that value. Finally, this research believes that the public sector incentives that bolsters the bioplastics industry would only become more diversified and robust as the demand for a more sustainable environment increases.
