A total of 199 valid questionnaires were received with a validity rate of 95.67%. The statistical methods that were adopted in the study include Descriptive Statistics, MANOVA, Pearson Correlation, etc. The main conclusions of this study are as follows: 1. A majority of special education teachers in southern Taiwan elementary schools were female, aged between 31 and 40. The majority of the subjects had a year of service of at least 10 years in education, including at least 6 years in special education. As for education background, most of the subjects had master’s degree. 90% of the subjects were both homeroom teachers and teachers. More than half of the subjects have participated in the Adapted Physical Education related training courses. Over 40% of the subjects possessed the certificates of sporting referee or coach. 2. The degree of importance in special education teachers’ professional knowledge of Adapted Physical Education in southern Taiwan: No significant difference was observed among the effect of different demographic variables on the degree of importance in special education classes. However, the average score exceeded a certain level, meaning most people did not deny the importance of professional knowledge of Adapted Physical Education just because no significant difference was observed among demographic variables. The importance still had a certain level of recognition. 3. The actual performance of special education teachers’ professional knowledge of Adapted Physical Education in southern Taiwan: A significant difference was observed among the effect of different factors such as year of service in Adapted Physical Education, participation in Adapted Physical Education related training courses, and the geographical regions in southern Taiwan. 4. There was a significant correlation in the relations of degree of importance of special education teachers’ professional knowledge of Adapted Physical Education and the actual performance. As a result, the higher a teacher’s level of professional knowledge of Adapted Physical Education was, the better the actual performance was.
