Summary: | 碩士 === 國立高雄科技大學 === 財富與稅務管理系 === 107 === This thesis mainly explores the relationship between board diversity, measured in both relation oriented dimension (i.e., gender) and task-oriented dimension (i.e., expertise), and corporate investment efficiency. Using a sample of 14,811 firm-year across listed in Taiwan from 2006 to 2017. The results find that relation-oriented diversity attributes can improve corporate investment efficiency by reducing under-investment indicating that board gender diversity is associated with better quality of investment decision. However, task-oriented diversity can lead to over-investment and can not effectively improve corporate investment performance showing that the presence of directors with legal and functional expertise is associated with lower investment quality. Finally, this study finds that task-oriented diversity will dominate the relationship-oriented diversity and reduce the positive effect of the latter on investment efficiency, indicating that the influence of task-oriented diversity on corporate investment decisions is higher than that of relationship-oriented diversity.
