| Summary: | 碩士 === 國立高雄師範大學 === 人力與知識管理研究所 === 107 === The object of this research was to evaluate the direct medical cost and the sex differences of the first-episode schizophrenia during index hospitalization over a 8-year period. We identified 230 patients met our predefined selection criteria. Direct medical costs were calculated in terms of drugs, hospitalizations and specialist services. The average medical cost was approximately US$4,350 per patient. Age at the first-admission、age of onset、length of hospitalization and follow-up after discharge within 180 days are significantly different between male and female patients. Based upon the findings, this research also proposes further discussions and substantial advices.
