The goals were to increase the level of the student courage and lower their frequency of misbevaviors. The quasi-experimental design method used with the attempt to verify the effectiveness of the counseling intervention. Data collection methods included pre and post tests of a courage scale, a behavioral observation checklist as well as in-depth interviews with the participants. The research findings are as the following. Prior to the group intervention, students in both emperienmental and congroup groups did not differ in their levels of courage and misbehaviors. Overall, students with lower academic achievement and whose parents were divorced had higher level of defiant behaviors. Students in the experiemental group who participated in the encouragement group significantly increased their level of courage and decreased deviant behaviors.
