It has created convenient environments in society and contributed to critical social development. In recent years, Kaohsiung City has actively promoted the construction of public rail transportation systems and facilitated diverse developments in such systems by targeting various user needs and transport purposes. The objectives of this study were to examine whether elementary school senior students in Kaohsiung City possessed sufficient knowledge about the public transportation systems and investigate their attitudes, as well as simultaneously discuss the status quo of their knowledge and attitudes under various backgrounds and explore the differences between them. A questionnaire survey with stratified cluster sampling was employed on elementary school senior students in Kaohsiung City. The study results may serve as a valuable reference for teachers and related institutions to impart knowledge of Taiwan’s public rail transportation systems and promote relevant education. The findings revealed as follows: 1.Elementary school senior students in Kaohsiung City have a medium-to-high degree of transportation cognition. 2.Elementary school senior students in Kaohsiung City mainly obtain public rail transport information by actual participation. 3.There are significant differences in rail transport perceptions among students of different grades, locations of schools, academic performance, and experience and frequency of take. 4.In terms of rail transit attitude, elementary school senior students in Kaohsiung City tend to be positive. 5.Differences in genders, grades, academic performance, taking experience, and frequency of students have significant differences in rail transit attitudes. 6.After correlation analysis, it was found that there was a low positive correlation between rail transportation cognition and attitude.
