Summary: | 碩士 === 國防大學 === 戰略研究所 === 107 === After taking office in 2012, Xi Jinping continued his large-scale reforms by fighting corruption and briberies so that he could concentrate his power, eliminate oppositions, and establish a core dominating position. These were strengthened in Xi’s second term, when “X’s Thought” has successfully entered both the Communist Party Constitution and State Constitution, and cast away the two-term limitation. When a life-long trinity model is in place, history has witnessed Xi buttressed by theory and more self-assured in dictatorship. Nevertheless, the theoretic complexity of Xi’s Though has proved unsustainable to resolve practical issues of the days, and the investigations into the scandals often led to the protests from the vested interests. The situation is deteriorated by the trade conflicts with the US and impacts from foreign sanctions. There are now serious internal disputes in the CCP that boded ill for the regime, which has been exemplified by late coming of the Fourth Plenary Session of the CCP’s 18th Central Committee.
The purpose of this study was to explore: What is the developing process of Xi’s Thought and what can be its potential limitations? To address these questions, this study compared Xi’s Thought in New China Featured by Socialism with the previous ideologies including Mao’s Thought, Deng’s Theory, Zhang’s Three Representatives, and Hu’s Scientific Outlook of Development. To draw the findings from the comparative approach, this study sought to deepen the understanding by analyzing the data focused on backgrounds, contents and constructive process of the ideologies. The findings from this study regarding limitations to Xi’s Thought to get mature were as follows: First, creditability of X’s Thought has dropped. Second, it has now at been taken as a tool for power struggle. Third, it remains unsustainable to cope with practical issues in China. The study in conclusion anticipated that Xi will continue with the banner of "building a well-off society in an all-round way in 2020" with emphasis on internal stability and economic build-ups, while ideologies remain the main barrier to timely reforms badly needed.
