From \" Psychology\" to \" Physical Education\": Career Picture of Student Athletes

碩士 === 國立東華大學 === 諮商與臨床心理學系 === 107 === The purpose of this study is to explore career development of student athletes. Through the time line of past, present and future, this paper attempts to depict the overall career picture of Taiwanese student athletes by using ethnography as a research method. The researcher transferred from the Department of Counseling Psychology to the Department of Physical Education as a cross-field exchange student in an one-year duration involved in three research fields: Graduate School of Physical Education, Department of Physical Education, and the volleyball school team. This study finds that student athletes' expectations for future careers are not different from those of ordinary students. They also hope to have a leisure and quality time with family. The differentiation is that they have a special learning context in the past, meaning that it is difficult to develop a multi-faceted future career image in an environment that emphasizes sports competition and low morale of learning generally, along with the closed interpersonal network within the sports team. Based on the above research results, this study makes further discussion for the following: the premature learning differentiation of student athletes, the closed interpersonal network, the positioning and shifting of self-identity and self-worth, regular life style scheduled, and the strong desire for family. Finally, this study suggests that in the future, schools at all levels can provide learning guidance of individual small classes for student athletes. At the university level, the Department of Physical Education is recommended to undertake the implementation of multiple career plans. In the meanwhile, counseling psychologists are introduced to become the division of the sports team as a resource to help sport coach providing career care for student athletes, and researchers believe that a multi-disciplinary career group counseling is a practicable approach. Through this research, we expect that people have growing interests in sports events, moreover people inspired can devote themselves into the relevant research of student athletes, and hoping that our country will have more comprehensive care for career of student athletes in the future.
