Firstly, according to the 2016 equipment maintenance record data of the plant, it is decided to take the yoghurt production line filling mechanism as the research object. Next, the failure mode and effect analysis is used to identify the main failure modes and key components of the filling mechanism, and the failure tree analysis is used to calculate the failure rate of the components of the filling mechanism and its total failure rate. Then, the related data is used to calculate mean time between failures and availability of the filling mechanism. Since 2017, we have designed and implemented improvement measures for key components, and calculated and compared related data and maintenance costs. The research results show that it does achieve the research goal of reducing maintenance costs, reducing failure rate at least 40%, increasing the mean time between failures by more than 2,000 minutes, and increasing the availability by more than 97%. The failure data analysis steps and component improvement measures of this study can be used to other food equipment with complete failure data in the food factory so that they can be used for analysis and decision-making of machine equipment or component improvement measures.
