The heat pump model contains the steady-state heat pump system for refrigeration cycle and the mushroom drying process cycle. Detailed thermofluids characteristics of the components in each cycle is taken into account to model the whole system behavior. The simulation model shows good prediction against the drying time from the experiment with about 4.5% deviation. Further parametric influences on the drying mushroom is carried out, including air volume, compressor size, refrigerant charge, and external condenser settings. Details regarding the drying process in refrigeration and air cycle are reported, including the suction and discharge pressure of the heat pump system, COP (coefficient of performance), SMER (specific moisture evaporating rate), air outlet temperature of drying chamber and other parameters with time. From the simulation results, it was found that when the air volume increased, the COP, SMER were improved while and the drying time is reduced. The refrigerant charge and the compressor size do not improve the drying time appreciably.
