When developing scheduling algorithms, the resource constraints on DMFBs are extremely important. That is, given a limited number of reservoirs, time-consuming reservoir switching operations cannot be avoided in general. Besides, most of existing algorithms do not consider the number of storage units as a constraint when reducing the switching count. Therefore, we propose a new algorithm, SARSOM, which is the first storage-aware reservoir switching operation minimization scheduling algorithm on DMFBs. SARSOM is a two-staged algorithms. In the first stage, SARSOM schedules the given mixing graph while minimizing the number of storages and the number of reservoir switching operations. In the second stage, SARSOM preloads reactants into vacant storages to further minimize the reservoir switching count. The experimental results reveal that the SARSOM reduces 44% of storage usage and 17% of reservoir switching over a prior art (RMS algorithm) at the first stage. Besides, given the same storage amount, SARSOM can reduce reservoir switching by 59% as compared to RMS.
