However, due to the high price of electric bus and limited recharging range, the replacement and deployment of electric buses are essential to a bus company. This study aims to propose a model to optimally replace and deploy buses with consideration of bus age, recharging range, annual budget for replacing buses, bus replacement subsidy, and bus operating subsidy. Three choices of buses include the traditional diesel buses and electric buses (on-route charging and overnight charging). The proposed optimization model is to determine buses replacement and deployment plan along with sufficient number of recharging facilities so as to minimize total cost. To show the applicability of the proposed model, a case study on South Taiwan Bus Company has been conducted. Additionally, sensitive analyses on subsidy, budget, bus price and recharging range are also performed. The results show the electric on-route charging buses tend to deployed at the short but high frequency routes (with total daily bus mileage exceeding 100 km) and electric overnight charging buses are favored at the long and high frequency routes (with total daily bus milage exceeding 200km).
