The research uses the “New Fun in Crafts Project” (hereinafter referred to as “the Project”), a project that has been conducted by the National Taiwan Crafts Research and Development Institute since 2008 according to the Creative Investment Two-Phase Program, as the sample for analytical research. The purpose of the research is to understand if encouraging the youth to get to know and learn crafts via governmental policies can propel the implementation of policies cultivating young talents for Taiwan crafts. Meanwhile, this study also researches and analyzes how the backgrounds, experiences, and behaviors of those partaking in the Project influence their attitude towards government policies. This study uses analytical research to assess the effectiveness of the Project so far, so the results can serve as a reference for the subsequent revision or extension of the Project. The findings suggest that the participants in the Project hold a positive attitude towards the government’s attempt to draft and plan relevant policies. They also think there is still plenty of room for improvement in terms of the government’s relevant policies to cultivate craft artists. The New Fun in Crafts Project is where tradition integrates, clashes, and develops with creativity. By incorporating students’ creativity, the Project can provide traditional crafts with energy, pushing Taiwan crafts to move forward with the trend of the times. However, it is impossible to cultivate talents, pass down techniques, and develop the industry through a single Project. Therefore, the extension of the Project, input of resources from different departments, and multilateral cooperation between the industry, government and academia seem relatively crucial. While this study adopted a retrospective online survey, the New Fun in Crafts Project has proceeded into its 12th year, and participants in the early stage have already graduated and entered the job market. Participants’ responses might be restricted due to external influences having occurred after they left the Project, such as social, environmental, and economic factors. Taiwan crafts integrate the unique foundation of Taiwanese culture, and the government plays a vital role in terms of the transformation and development of the craft industry. In addition to building an optimal environment favorable to the transformation and development of the industry, the government should also cultivate people’s basic aesthetic sense through education to enhance their sense of life, stimulate creativity in modern crafts, and move forward to revamp the image of Taiwan’s craft culture.
