Therefore, they extremely value marriage and pay much attention to marriage rites. Basically, the traditional wedding ceremony is to follow the “six rites” : Na-Cai (納采), Wen-Ming (問名), Na-Ji (納吉), Na-Cheng (納徵), Qing-Chih (請期), Qing-Ying (親迎) to perform the ceremony, showing that they are respect for the wedding. Owing to the marriages and ceremonies, varying from time to time and from place to place. For example, the early arrival of Hakka immigrants settled in Taiwan. Customs of Local or other group will influence on lifestyle, customs of Hakka hometown when they lived in Taiwan. It also has been changed partial marriages and ceremonies, but the traditional marriages and ceremonies of the original hometown are still preserved. It can be seen that Hakka marriages and ceremonies also vary with the times and areas. Nowadays, Hakka’s marriages and ceremonies in Taiwan have simplified many complicated rites and influenced by culture of Western or other ethnic groups. This study attempts to discuss Hakka marriages, ceremonies and focus on Meinong and Liouguei districts by related literatures and theses of second-hand research. Field work and oral interview are also applied to supplement the shortage of literatures. Moreover, this thesis explains “six rites” and marriages, ceremonies of the original hometown and analyze, compare marriages and ceremonies of Meinong and Liouguei with original hometown, Hakka areas of Northern Taiwan. In this way, this study will organize, record, and analyze the marriages and ceremonies at Meinong and Liouguei, and highlight and reflect the characteristics of marriage’s customs.
