Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立成功大學 === 經濟學系 === 107 === Since the 1973 oil crisis caused oil prices to soar, the global economy had fallen into recession. People were beginning to care if oil prices would have an impact on economic growth. Much foreign research has confirmed oil prices will affect not only the growth of GDP, but also the unemployment rate of a country. There is a lack of research which explores the effect of oil prices on the unemployment rate in Taiwan. Moreover, the scholars who have discussed the relationship between them have different views. In order to analyze the effect of the exogenous structural shocks on unemployment rate of Taiwan, we will define crude oil supply shocks, aggregate demand shocks and crude oil specific-demand shocks with a recursive VAR model. Then, we divide the three structural shocks into the rising shocks and the falling shocks, respectively. Last but not least, we will check if there is an asymmetry in the response of unemployment rate of Taiwan to positive and negative shocks.
