Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立政治大學 === 數位內容碩士學位學程 === 107 === Odor is one of the innate senses of human beings and one of the original sensing capabilities that people use at judging values. However, when odor is used as a form of value judgment, can it be operated and presented in an artistic way? While odor act as a sensory receptor, can it evoke different memories? Also, by using odor as a medium to awaken memories, can it create a feeling of confusion? Therefore, this creation aims to share the personal experience of the creator and his various views on the relationship between odor, body, and memory. Through researching odor related literature to understand the cultural development of odor, comparing changes in historical experiences, explored odor-related works of art and commercial products and compare the similarities and differences between ideas and designs. This art creation in this paper uses several humidifiers with food flavors and essential oils as the main media. With three scenarios "memories", "confused memories" and "dissipated memories" recorded in exhibitions, including the adjustment process, the author also observes the interaction of users on site and gain insight and reflection on certain interactive behavior. The creator’s concept begins with a discussion on the relationship between human and the instinct of olfactory. Then extends to the memories related to the odor, the feeling of dispersal and the memory of odor reproduction after the odor dissipates. Hence concluding: The memory of odor is a kind of memory that is "both true and false", and this paper proposes a series of creations to discuss the whimsical process and differences.
