It was a challenge from a nursing staff to NP during the transitional process. Prolong stress will cause physical and emotional disorders, and menal dysfuction that may cause burnout and increase turn-over rate. Aims: The study describes the stressors and coping of NPs during role transition process. Moreover, participants’ expectations were addressed from clinical practice, school curriculum, and policy views. Methods: A qualitative content analysis was used. A purposive sampling of NPs was obtained from one medical center in South Taiwan. The participants were practically involved in clinical patient care and had more than six months and less than five years of work experience. Semi-structured questionairs and in-depth face-to-face interviews were used. Results: A total number of 10 participants were all women, age from 28 to 38 years old (M±SD, 32 ± 2.94). Most of them were married (n=5). Most of them had graduated from unicersity; the average tenure of nurses were 9.88 years; and 2.88 years for being NPs. Moreover, the number of obtaining NPs licenses were 7. The main motivation of becoming NP included: to maintain physical strength and health, to promote professional growth, and to fulfill self-expectation and self-realization. The pressure in the transition process of NP included: the needs of professional knowledge, interpersonal communication and relationship, medical administration, professional skills, physical and mental overload. The main stress coping strategies of NPs were as follows: seeking external supports and relieve ways; and accommodation. Conclusions: This study showed that the main stress of NPs in the transition process inclued English medical records, being a communicator and coordinator, learning English writing skills in schools and hospitals. In addition, the practicum of NPs could be independent from work. The details of policies and regulations of clinical skills can be more explicitly to protect Nurse Practitioner’s rights. This study provide suggestions to schools, hospitals and national policies in the role transiton of NPs. Hsiao,Szu-Mei 蕭思美 2019 學位論文 ; thesis 239 zh-TW |
