This study explores the employment situation of people with disabilities in Yunlin County. The research reveals that the industrial structure of Yunlin County is based on agriculture, and focuses on the difficulties, setbacks and limitations of people with disabilities in the employment workplace. We conduct workplace employment research, using qualitative research structures and methods for in-depth interviews, and interview three successful employes in the horticultural orchid market that have made eight successful long-term employment. Among the three interviewees, one is employed as a child with polio and mentally handicapped, another is physically and mentally impaired due to accident, and the other has congenital mental disorders. These three interviewees have different types of obstacles caused by different factors .
This research discovers that throughout the employment process of people with physical and mental disabilities, the difficulties encountered or achievements after successful employment are highly related with social identification. According to the interview records, the researcher summarizes several common points below. The first, the obstacles people with physical and mental disabilities face during employment include 1. Employment setbacks 2. Traffic restrictions 3. Employment environment adaptation 4. Family support. The second, the courses and opportunities of employment for people with physical and mental disabilities include 1. Employment opportunities 2. Economic improvement 3. Employment attitude 4. Family atmosphere. The third, benefits and achievements of employment for people with physical and mental disabilities include 1. Changes in interpersonal relationships 2. Changes in quality of life 3. Social participation 4. Social identity. From this study, it is confirmed that people with physical and mental disabilities who are employed in the horticultural orchid workplace can successfully obtain long-term employment opportunities. However, the obstacles in employment and their achievements in this case are not much different from those in other industries. The suggestion is that the labor department should coordinate and integrate in accordance with the purpose of various types of employment while they promote the implementation of asylum-based employment.
