authority take? These issues are worth discussing.
The purpose of this study was to explore how family background effected certain junior high school students in Kaohsiung City. The study used the questionnaire survey method to collect data. The research objects are students from 7th to 9th grades. After collecting 342 questionnaires, 332 valid ones were obtained. The ratio of valid
questionnaires accounts for 97%.
Data analysis was performed by using statistical methods such as descriptive statistics, crosstabs, and chi-square tests. This paper will study the correlation among several issues, students’ learning motivation and attitudes, and academic achievement. The issues in the paper aimed at parents’ marital status, who the main conductor is and the education level of him or her, attitudes of supervision and control, gender of
students, students ranking at home, and frequency of after-school tutoring.
The results are listed below:
I. The issues which obviously effect students’ learning motivation and attitudes:
1. The attitudes of supervision and control.
2. Students ranking at home.
II. The issues which obviously effect academic achievement:
1. The main conductor.
2. The attitudes of supervision and control.
3. The frequency of after-school tutoring.
Based on the results, this study will make several recommendations to schools
and educational administration authority.
