According to survey data, most elderly care responsibilities were taken by the family members. Facing the health impacts from physiology, psychology, society and economy etc., most amateur caregivers could feel both stress and even depression. To release the stress effectively by using horticultural therapy (HT) is the objectives in this research. In this study, “Zung Self-Rating Depression Scale” (SDS) and “Overall well-being assessment” (OWA) were used as evaluation tools. Through the use of such evaluation tools, the influence on the stress and welfare effectiveness for the participators before and after horticultural therapy programs was studied. The research results showed that after 6 weeks of horticultural therapy, six participators who were slightly depression reduced to 4, and two participators who were medium depression reduce to none, according to SDS test. Not only that, all the participators was significantly improved in their well-beings after HT according to the OWA scores. The result of present study can be used as reference for non-professional caregiver in releasing the stress and in enhancing the overall welfare effectiveness.
