Cornea can be infected by bacteria, fungi, amoeba and virus. In particular, fungal keratitis is quite dangerous. Fungal keratitis is one of the major causes of blindness in developing countries. Currently, the rate of corneal ulcers, due to fungus, is increasing; therefore, investigating the patients’ knowledge and attitude of fungal keratitis is important. Furthermore, this research is beneficial for the health of eyes, the care and the prevention of fungal keratitis. Objectives This study explores the knowledge, and attitude of patients with fungal keratitis and the correlations among these variables. Methods This is a cross-section study. The subject of this study is on patients with fungal keratitis at the eye hospital in Vietnam, who have positive fungal test results. The data collection was done by the researcher at the hospital bedside in the eye hospital after the questionnaire by the research team developed. The patients with fungal keratitis in the study had to agree on the consent form to participate in the ethical study of rights, fairness, and confidentiality. Data analysis will use percent, average, median, mean, mode, the Pearson-r and regression software by analyzing descriptive and advanced statistical data. Result From May 2018 to May 2019, a total of 150 patients with fungal corneal ulcer at the eye hospital in Vietnam. The mean score of knowledge was only 8.46 ± 1.95 (maximum of 22 points). None of the patients had the good knowledge of fungal keratitis, the fair knowledge was 1.3%, the average was 45.3% and the highest was the poor knowledge (53.3%). The mean score of attitudes was 6.20 ± 1.74 points (maximum of 12 points). Good attitude was only 2%, the fair was 22.7%, the average was 43.3% and 32% were poor attitude. Educational level and residence relate to the knowledge and attitude of patients with fungal keratitis. Conclusion This study is a pioneering study in the study of the relationship between knowledge and attitudes of patients with fungal keratitis in Vietnam. Patients with fungal keratitis have poor knowledge and attitude. Therefore, prevention is very important and needs to be on the top. The results of this study can provide some valuable insights to hospital managers, nursing staff and other researchers. 碩士 === 輔英科技大學 === 護理系碩士班 === 108 === Background
Corneal ulcer is an infectious pathology.
Objectives
This study explores the knowledge, and attitude of patients with fungal keratitis and the correlations among these variables.
Methods
This is a cross-section study.
Result
From May 2018 to May 2019, a total of 150 patients with fungal corneal ulcer at the eye hospital in Vietnam.
Conclusion
This study is a pioneering study in the study of the relationship between knowledge and attitudes of patients with fungal keratitis in Vietnam. Patients with fungal keratitis have poor knowledge and attitude. Therefore, prevention is very important and needs to be on the top. The results of this study can provide some valuable insights to hospital managers, nursing staff and other researchers.
